Charles M Schulz – Sonoma County Airport to undergo training exercise on Thursday
On April 25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport will be conducting its Triennial Emergency Response Exercise, a practical exercise and safety training that takes place every three years at commercial service airports across the United States. Mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration, the training exercise is a comprehensive mass-casualty event simulation that tests the planning, operational readiness, speed, and effectiveness of emergency personnel in real-time. Alaska Airlines adds direct flights from Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport to Las Vegas
Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport today announced that Alaska Airlines will add nonstop service from Sonoma County Airport to Las Vegas. The daily, year-round flight, which starts Oct. 1, is Alaska Airlines’ seventh nonstop destination from Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport. By this fall, Alaska will operate 13 peak day departures, including nonstop service to Los Angeles, Burbank, Orange County, Seattle, Portland, San Diego and Las Vegas. Read full story
Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport to replace storm culvert, refurbish sections of pavement at regional airfield
The Sonoma County Department of Public Infrastructure today announced plans to refurbish a section of runway pavement and replace a deteriorating culvert following an annual inspection and report issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA, which has oversight of safety and operations at the regional airfield, conducts annual audits at all active airports with airline service in the United States to ensure compliance with federal safety regulations and provides a checklist of required improvements. Historical Wohler Road Bridge over the Russian River to get seismic upgrade beginning Summer 2024
The Board of Supervisors today awarded an $18 million construction contract for the seismic retrofit of the historical Wohler Road Bridge over the Russian River, located 10 miles northwest of Santa Rosa. The existing seismically deficient one-lane bridge, which was completed in 1922, will receive a new lightweight concrete deck, seismic isolation bearings and joints, steel truss reinforcement and foundation reinforcement designed to meet current seismic design standards for bridges. Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport welcomes investment in local economy with new Avelo Airlines crew base
Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport today announced that Avelo Airlines on May 1 will open a crew base at the airport, which is expected to create up to 50 local jobs including pilots, flight attendants and aviation maintenance technicians. The move highlights Sonoma County’s value and importance as a destination and regional transportation hub. Avelo will initially base two Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft at STS in addition to employees. Read full story
Board of Supervisors authorizes planning and development of advanced composting facility in Sonoma County
The Board of Supervisors today authorized engineering and environmental planning for the first centralized composting facility in Sonoma County, which is expected to divert and process approximately 65,000 tons of organic material each year. The initiative, in alignment with the County’s Five-year Strategic Plan for Climate Action and Resiliency, moves the county toward carbon-neutral operations by 2030 and is supported by grant funding. Sonoma County topped 50 miles of repaved roads, 54 culvert replacements in 2023
Sonoma County today announced the results of the Summer 2023 road construction season, which included the resurfacing of 50 miles of county-maintained roads and the replacement of 54 culverts. The work involved a combination of roads identified for the ongoing Pavement Preservation Program and roads that qualified for repair as part of the Fire Damage Recovery Paving Project supported by PG&E settlement funds. The cost of all paving work performed during the summer was approximately $32 million. Read full story
