Board of Supervisors approves list of SB1 infrastructure projects for 2025-26 fiscal year

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today approved a list of local streets and road projects to be completed during the 2025-26 construction seasons using more than $14.5 million in anticipated revenue from SB1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act. The state’s SB1 Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account is derived primarily from per-gallon fuel excise taxes. All SB1 funds go to infrastructure repair and improvement projects, in alignment with the Resilient Infrastructure pillar of Sonoma County’s Five-year Strategic Plan. Read full story

Board of Supervisors approves replacement of Geysers Road bridge over Frasier Creek

The Board of Supervisors today approved plans and specifications for the replacement of the Geysers Road bridge that spans Frasier Creek east of Cloverdale. The existing bridge was identified by Caltrans as functionally obsolete and structurally vulnerable to failure during a major earthquake. The new two-lane bridge is designed to meet current standards including improvements to roadway approaches, travel lanes and road shoulders.  Read full story

Elijah Justin Beck sentenced to 10 years state prison for attempted carjacking of elderly victims' vehicles and stabbing

Defendant Elijah Justin Beck was sentenced to 10 years in state prison last week after a Sonoma County jury found him guilty of attempting to carjack two elderly victims’ cars and stabbing another victim at the Fourth Street Safeway parking lot in Santa Rosa. Read full story

Elana Cohen-Roth, 81, Sentenced to 12 Years State Prison for Defrauding Elder Victim of Her Life Savings

Defendant Elana Cohen-Roth, an 81-year-old retired IRS agent of Marina Del Rey, California was sentenced yesterday by the Honorable Paige Hein to 12 years in state prison. This sentence follows a jury convicting Cohen-Roth of 23 felony offenses related to the methodical defrauding of an elderly victim of her entire life savings over a seven-year period. Sonoma County officials urge residents to prepare for wildfire season

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors is reminding residents that it’s not too early to start getting ready for the threat of wildfires. The supervisors have declared the month of May as Wildfire Community Preparedness Month and stressed that fire prevention measures would be the focus of public education during the month. Creative Sonoma announces public art grants for 19 projects in west Sonoma County

Creative Sonoma today announced the recipients of its Community Public Art Project Grant program for Sonoma County’s Fifth Supervisorial District. Nineteen organizations will be awarded a total of $126,580 for community-based public art projects in unincorporated locations of west Sonoma County. The grant program is intended to enable creative projects in the Fifth District that demonstrate the power of the arts to contribute to the social cohesion of communities through beautification of downtown areas or neighborhoods. For this first-time grant program, the grants are funded by the County of Sonoma Fifth District Community Infrastructure Funding and Tourism Impact Funds. Read full story

Sonoma County Housing Authority opens waitlists for project-based vouchers

The Sonoma County Housing Authority will accept waitlist applications for senior studio and one-bedroom project-based voucher waitlist lotteries from June 1 through June 30. The waitlists will be for applicants 62 or over who meet the qualifications for “very low income,” which is at or below 50 percent of area median income. Read full story

Supervisors authorize $1 million investment in community resource centers, resilient infrastructure for Healdsburg, Cloverdale

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday authorized $1 million in grant funding for infrastructure development and improvements to Abel De Luna Community Center in Healdsburg and La Familia Sana in Cloverdale to better serve community needs for family resources, bolster disaster preparedness, and improve capacity for disaster recovery in northern Sonoma County. The two individual $500,000 investments come from the Supervisorial District Four Community Infrastructure Fund. Read full story

Board of Supervisors takes first step toward expanding access and participation on County boards and commissions

On Tuesday, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement with the Justice Collective, LLC to work with the County’s Office of Equity in conducting an assessment of the County’s boards and commissions that will yield recommended compensation and meeting policies as well as identify the infrastructure needed to implement the recommended policies.
