Former Santa Rosa Chiropractor Sentenced to Prison for Sexual Batteries on Patients
Defendant Darius Bunyad, 41 years old of Petaluma, was sentenced Monday, June 21 by the Honorable Dana Simonds to serve ten years in state prison (the maximum eligible sentence under the law) after being found guilty by a jury in 2017 of committing six counts of felony sexual battery by fraud, and multiple additional misdemeanor offenses. County of Sonoma Health officials issue heat alert
The County of Sonoma Department of Health Services has issued a Heat Alert in response to the National Weather Service’s Heat Advisory for parts of the county from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 21. The heat alert applies to inland areas of Sonoma County, where high temperatures are forecast in the high 90s and low 100s. Santa Rosa is forecast to reach 103 degrees. Read full story

Registrar of Voters announces Wednesday deadline to “cure” ballot signature issues from June primary
Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Deva Marie Proto is alerting Sonoma County voters who have been notified that their ballots in the June Primary Election were challenged due to missing or mismatched signatures that must complete and submit the appropriate signature “cure” forms to the Registrar of Voters Office by 5 p.m. on June 22. Vaccination of under-5-year-olds to begin in Sonoma County
With federal and state regulators having now approved the use of COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 6 months to 4 years old, Sonoma County is expected to begin vaccinating the roughly 21,000 children in this age range through primary care providers and health centers beginning this week. Board of Supervisors adopts Fiscal Year 2022-23 budget
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today voted unanimously to adopt the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget, including $2.26 billion in total expenditures representing a 7 percent increase from the 2021-22 Adopted Budget, and 4,272 full time employees, a 2.8 percent increase in staffing. Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino County Partner to Create a Cleaner Coast
Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties are launching a coordinated campaign to provide visitor education and outreach to reduce the amount of litter and waste in coastal regions and watersheds through a three-County memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the non-profit organization Leave No Trace.The ongoing partnership includes coordination with federal and state agencies, federally recognized tribes, non-federally recognized tribes, local jurisdictions and land managers, Sonoma County Tourism, and other community-based groups across all three counties. Climate Resilient Lands Strategy released for public input
Sonoma County’s Climate Action and Resiliency Division and Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District today released the Sonoma County Climate Resilient Lands Strategy, a document designed to provide structure and guidance to climate-related efforts throughout the county, with a focus on natural and working lands. Alongside the full draft strategy, an Overview and Critical Concepts document is also available, which offers a summary of the full strategy alongside key excerpts. Comments can be made on either document. The Overview and Critical Concepts document has also been translated into Spanish. Read full story
