The Monte Rio Redwoods Expansion moves forward, protecting over 1,500 acres of forest and watershed in a major conservation effort. With salmon season approaching, boaters are encouraged to review safety tips before heading out. The upcoming Lower Russian River MAC meeting on June 12 will focus on the County’s General Plan Update and introduce the EPIC public art campaign, which promotes keeping trash out of local waterways. The meeting will also include a brief summary update regarding a possible Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District (EIFD) in unincorporated West County.

Public hearings on 2025-2026 Sonoma County budget to begin June 10
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will hold its annual budget hearings on Tuesday, June 10 at 9 a.m. Public comment is welcome at the opening of the hearings, which may continue June 11 and 13 if needed. At the conclusion, the board will adopt a spending plan for the 2025-2026 fiscal year beginning July 1.
Sonoma County officials warn of high wildfire risk for 2025 fire season
Sonoma County officials and partner agencies today urged residents to prepare for what may be a high-risk wildfire season this year. During a wildfire preparedness update before the Board of Supervisors, officials, including emergency managers and fire chiefs, highlighted local multi-agency efforts to reduce wildfire risk, enhance emergency coordination, and support community readiness as the county prepares for a 2025 fire season that is expected to bring high fuel loads and unfavorable weather conditions.
Sonoma County to offer Community Emergency Response Team trainings
The public is invited to join a unique team of volunteers who have received advanced training, free of charge, to help their families, neighborhoods and communities prepare for and respond to wildfires and other disasters. The Sonoma County Department of Emergency Management has several upcoming trainings for the Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. A nationally respected training program, CERT is the focus of the department’s attempt at engaging Sonoma County residents in disaster preparedness.
