For Immediate Release
County voter guides for November General Election begin going out in the mail tomorrow
SANTA ROSA, CA | September 26, 2024
County Voter Information Guides for the Nov. 5 General Election will begin going out in the mail tomorrow, Deva Marie Proto, Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters, announced today. The County Guides will be mailed to all active, registered voters in Sonoma County, with the exception of voters who have opted out of receiving such mailings. To opt in or out of this service, voters should fill out this form online or call the Registrar of Voters Office. Official ballots will begin going out in the mail to all active, registered voters starting Oct. 7.
County Guides can be viewed online by going to the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters homepage and clicking on Online version of County Voter Guide under the “November 5, 2024, General Election” heading. Note that United States Senate and Proposition contests are not covered in the County Guide but are listed in the State Voter Information Guide, which is mailed out separately by the Secretary of State’s Office and can be viewed online here. In addition, presidential candidate statements are not included in the paper versions of the County or State Voter Guides, but are posted online here.
Compilations of all candidate statements and proposition/measure information are also available online at the November 5, 2024, General Election page by clicking Candidates on the Ballot and/or Props and Measures on the Ballot under the “Links” heading.
The Nov. 5 General Election will be the first general presidential election in Sonoma County since the County began utilizing the Voter’s Choice Act election model in 2022. This model gives voters more flexibility regarding when, where and how to cast their ballots. Counties conducting elections under this model must:
- Have at least one official ballot drop box per 15,000 registered voters starting no later than 28 days before Election Day. For the Nov. 5 General Election, there will be 22 official ballot drop boxes open starting Oct. 8.
- Utilize vote centers instead of polling places. Vote centers offer several major advantages over polling places:
- They are usually open multiple days, not just on Election Day (with the exception of small special elections).
- Registered voters in the County can cast a regular ballot at whichever vote center is most convenient for them. They do not have to go to a preassigned location.
- Vote centers also offer expanded voter services, including conditional (i.e., same-day) voter registration, voter address changes, language assistance, curbside voting and accessible ballot marking devices for voters with disabilities or those who prefer to use them.
- Have at least one vote center per 50,000 registered voters starting no later than 10 days before Election Day. For the Nov. 5 General Election, there will be seven vote centers open starting Oct. 26 in Sonoma County.
- Have at least one vote center per 10,000 registered voters starting no later than three days before Election Day. For the Nov. 5 General Election, there will be 31 Vote Centers open in Sonoma County starting Nov. 2 (including the seven which opened Oct. 26).
